Manchester City Transfer Rumours: Incomings
By David Crook
There is something reassuring about the early summer transfer rumour, like the first swallow it signifies the start of a period of change.
Manchester City approach this transfer window somewhat replete. Our squad has been good enough to win the first ever domestic trophy treble, but we are unlikely to rest on our laurels.
Instead, we will likely use the summer to bolster and freshen up our squad to press for the major honours ahead. Adding new faces to our team who are hungry for trophies will keep the remaining players focused on matters to come.
But whether this proves to be a really busy transfer period will probably depend more on outgoings. If first team players choose to leave then they will need to be replaced.
Today we are focussing on press stories about three different players who we seem to be linked with.

Firstly there is the Juventus Player Joao Cancelo. Cancelo only moved to Juventus from Valencia last summer for a fee of just over £36 million. The surprise is why would he be seeking a further move now?
Cancelo has been somewhat unhappy at reduced playing time and his agent is our go to fixer – Jorge Mendes. But what do City need with another right back as we have 2 already in the first team squad – Walker and Danilo.
Media reports have suggested Danilo is moving on and therefore City have been looking for a replacement. Yet, as Cancelo is likely to command a fee of over £50 million I just can not see us being interested. That is not the price of a back up squad player.
The second player we are linked with is Harry Maguire. The huge headed English centre back. Last summer his Club Leicester City successfully fended off the interest of United.
Maguire even signed a new contract at the time, but those things are seldom about loyalty but rather just a matter of price. The price of Maguire may prove to be a problem as considering the usual English player premium, he will probably cost in excess of £75 million.
Putting the price aside, would Maguire cope with the way we play such a high defensive line? Is he quick enough?
On the plus side, given how many corners we tend to win each game it may be worth having a cheeky flutter on him winning the golden boot!
The final player we are linked with is Rodri the defensive midfielder from Atletico Madrid. If the papers are to be believed City have agreed to meet the buy out clause and it’s all in the hands of the player?
So a week after the transfer window opened and City seem close to announcing their first signing! Come on City!!
