At least that is the last time we have to play Tottenham this season. It is not because they are a particularly daunting opponent because having 3 victories and a narrow defeat is not a bad return, it is simply we are all jaded with the frequency of the games.

This game was unlike the previous encounter in that the searing and soaring relentless attacks kind of naturally petered out and instead there was a largely dominant display by Manchester City, who were just troubled by several long balls during the game. To have reduced a team like Tottenham to doing an impression of a lower league side is no mean feat.

Ederson

There are games where Ederson has little to do but try and stay awake. This was not one of those games. Here he was required in full sweeper keeper mode. Patrolling hsi area and commanding his goal line. Saved several times to keep out Spurs, came out early to break down their attacks and distributed and passed the ball well.

Kyle Walker

Another energetic display from Walker who seemed intent on proving something to Pochettino although I am unclear what. He had to use his pace both in attack and defence and linked well with Bernardo on the right hand side. Always an attacking threat although his shooting and crossing was customarily poor.

Player Rating 8

John Stones

Good to see him back on the pitch although he did look a little rusty. Some of his early passing was a little wayward and he panicked under pressure. I expect more game time will allow both of these to pick up.

Player Rating 7

Aymeric Laporte

After what may have been his worst performance for City on Wednesday night it was good to see Aymeric get straight back in the saddle. He had a good game today despite the constant menace provided by Son. Read the game well, carried out a number of interceptions and busy in the air.

Player Rating 8

Oleks Zinchenko

Another returning player and it was good to see him back. Looked solid on the left, it was just some of his distance passing looked a little off. Important he will be available for the run in as we need his enthusiasm in the team.
