What Went Wrong For Manchester City At Spurs
By Dan Larsen
David Silva continued a volatile second half of the season with yet another drab performance on Tuesday night.
Though he was never going to be dropped given the importance of the game, David Silva was far from his best once again on Tuesday night.
Silva was largely anonymous during the game, failing to make much of an impact on either side of ball. According to Whoscored.com, Silva’s match rating was a 6.3, and he only completed 78.6% of his passes. Only Riyad Mahrez, Sergio Aguero, and Fabian Delph graded worse than Silva did last night.
This wasn’t an isolated incident for Silva either. Since the beginning of December, he has been quite inconsistent in his performances.
Silva has put in some incredible contributions, especially in City’s back-to-back 1-0 wins against West Ham and Bournemouth in March. However, he’s also had several sub-par performances too, particularly in City’s most difficult games like their game against Liverpool in January.
Though City’s more reserved approach certainly played a part, Silva failed to make any kind of impact on the game. City sorely needed some creativity and control in midfield, something he was unable to provide the team with.
Even when the team began to gain a foothold in the game, Silva failed to provide City with the slick passing and creativity they needed. He also found himself scuffing goal scoring chances, ending up in off-side positions and failing to test the Spurs keeper in any significant way.
There were, however, several others who stood out more than David Silva.
