Three Reasons Why International Football is Still Rubbish

The fact some of our players have performed well for their countries is not a surprise, nor is it a reason to think International Football is a worthwhile endeavour for anyone.

Manchester City have a ridiculous amount of players away from the Club currently performing International duties whilst football fans the world over sit and wait patiently for real football to return.

Man City Square have taken another long hard look at International football and finds three reasons why International Football is still rubbish.

Playing Well is Wasted Effort

Raheem Sterling won a penalty and scored three goals but none of them counted for anything in our title race. I have a theory about Raheem cultivated over a number of years watching him warm up for City. He only has a certain number of goals in him each and every day. If he wastes them in training and warm ups he has run out by match time

That’s why I urge him to miss in training and warm ups. With England I have the same view. He’s wasting goals for Englnad exactly at the point where we at Manchester City need every one.

So now is not a time to celebrate. Now we should be just wanting him to save it for Fulham away.

It interrupts Manchester City’s season

How many pointless international breaks do we need? There we were cramming in every game we could think of and what was that for exactly? A couple of pointless internationals.

We have all seen how tired our players have looked in recent weeks and how they need to recuperate. But instead they go off and play even more football. How rested will they be when they return?

What has happened to our peak focus and intensity in this 2 week gap? What will Guardiola have to do to try and prepare for a difficult away game against a much improved Fulham team?

The international break has interrupted our momentum and leaves it all to build again.

Injuries, tiredness and training

Anyone who saw the challenge suffered by Leroy Sane against Serbia in mid week can see exactly the dangers of going away with international football.

Our best players pick up knocks which render them out of action for crucial games. Our players are worn out already without the additional demands of International football being placed upon them.

To cap it all we send them away for 2 weeks. Away from the coaching of the best coach on the world, to where they are drilled by second rate staff, and then have to coach any bad habits back out of them.

I have said it before that International Football is just rubbish and I would much prefer to be watching Manchester City right now instead. I would happily replace all international football with an improved Club World Cup where instead we got to cheer on City against the best World Clubs in a tournament. That would be the only international football worth watching.
