Two stand out Manchester City players are currently negotiating new contracts which will tie them to the club for a number of years.

There is something to admire about the way in which Manchester City have been conducting their transfer business in recent years. Gone are the days when we would happily throw money to solve problems. In our attempt to close the gap on the elite clubs we had to pay over the odds to bring good players to our club. We paid the highest wages and gave the best bonuses.

But since establishing ourselves at the top table our strategy has changed. We have signed players who are young and who through coaching can achieve their potential. This has enabled the club to develop a comprehensive wage structure based around performance levels and achievement. This strict structure allows players to develop and be rewarded. We have refused to sign certain players whose wage demands would have upset our wage structure.

What this brings us back to is that as each of our young players achieve regular starting spots and earn international caps then City seek to tie them down to longer term deals, which crucially continue to remain within the overall wage structure. The idea here is to ensure some budgetary control is exercised so that as our highest earners have new contracts negotiated, the whole process starts again – allowing crucial growth head room in wages for player sto develop into.

The alternative to this strict structure is what is happening at Manchester United where Sanchez signed at £500K per week and suddenly all the existing star players wanted significant pay rises.

At Manchester City the excellent transfer strategy is now seeing a procession of players commit their long term futures to the club. Almost all of the existing first team have now signed contract extensions and the players who have contracts due to expire in the next couple of years are probably going to be allowed to move on. Brace yourselves City fans because this list includes David Silva and Sergio Aguero!

Zinchenko has been a revelation since turning down the chance to move permanently to Wolves last summer. Although he started the season as a back up player, he has so far seized the opportunities which have been given to him and there is not a City fan in the world who would be happy to see him leave. There is a strong rumour that a new deal has actually been agreed for Zinchenko and this will see him commit to the club for a further 5 years.

Leroy Sane has the capacity to terrorise defences and his contract stand off has caused some concern to City fans as we all know he has the potential to become a world class attacker. That potential ability alone is enough to mean he has an army of suitors amongst many of the top sides in the world.

There has been angst since stories emerged that Sane, with his family acting as his agents, was not keen on sorting a new deal. But since the stories around the contract negotiation went public there would appear to be movement and the suggestion is Sane has also agreed to a new 5 year deal although there remains a number of issues to sort around bonus and incentive structures within the deal. All of this seems to be considered as possible to sort which seems a swift turnaround from the impasse being reported a month ago.

Rumours have emerged that these new deals will be finalised and publicised in the coming weeks which may bring some further good cheer to City fans and may even help build the positive feelings around the squad as we march on towards further titles.
