Nathan (@peoplearemusic) is a Manchester City fan who started supporting City 12 years ago after seeing the start of the 2006/07 season begin with a 3-0 loss to Chelsea. He felt sorry for the poor ten men of Man City and it grew and grew. Thankfully there’s been much better times since then, the best of all left until the 93rd minute and 20th second on 13/05/12. Like all City fans he dreams of at least a domestic treble this year but is happy just to be part of the ride. He has now turned his love of City into building a way in which fans from all over the world can interact together live on a platform called Discord.

Man City Square (MCS): What is discord and why do you run an mcfc group in it?

Nathan: Discord is a chat platform which is used for text and voice chat that you can access on just about anything – PC, Mac, phones and tablets. There are already some brilliant, well established places to talk City such as Blue Moon and a really strong presence on Twitter. While these are all offering ways for fans to connect, I was looking for a platform that was more direct, interactive and immediate which would allow to City fans to chat in real-time and share match day experiences if you’re unable to attend the game.

MCS: How quickly has it grown and what do you want to achieve with it?

I’ve been fortunate to have the support of some established creators helping me spread the word about what our Discord server is all about. We opened under three weeks ago and currently have nearly 600 Blues who have decided to sign up and join. My aim was to have 157 members by May which would have made us the biggest City server on the platform and we’ve stormed past that and haven’t looked back. I’m blown away by how many people are looking for this type of communication and the sole reason for this Discord to exist is to bring City fans together. I’m talking to writers, podcasters and creators to feature their content in the server so their hard work is seen by as many fans as possible, and for the server that top quality content is always available for Blues all for free, a win win for everyone. The ultimate aim is to have a bustling hub of conversation with a stream of fan content available at any time of day.
