Manchester City have been rewarded for their good progress in this year’s FA Cup with a draw away to Swansea City in the Quarter Finals.

So far this year it would be difficult to accuse Manchester City of doing anything other than taking the FA Cup seriously despite facing some kind draws against teams from lower divisions. Of course before anyone starts criticising City for this run of draws, it is worth pointing out that they recently enjoyed a run of 9 successive away Cup draws against Premier League or top Championship sides!

This year in the FA Cup City have beaten Rotherham 7:0 and Burnley 5:0 at home and dispatched a plucky Newport County side in a 4:1 victory. Their reward for this has been another away draw against a team from Wales but this time it is a much tougher prospect against the recently relegated Swansea City.

More from Domestic Cups

Since being relegated from the Premier League last season Swansea have been rebuilding their side in the Championship under manager Graham Potter. They currently sit in 13th place in a very challenging division and have enjoyed some mixed results so far. It is probably fair to say that their form has been erratic. In their last 5 league games they have won 2, lost 2 and drawn 1. The league position probably means that they can be in a position to not have to worry about either relegation or promotion, so can concentrate all of their efforts upon the match against Manchester City.

Swansea beat Brentford 4:1 to progress to the quarter finals and enjoyed scoring one of the goals of the last round as the impressive Daniel James put on the after burners to score a breakaway goal at high speed. On that evidence he would appear to be a match for Kyle Walker and Leroy Sane in the speed stakes so City will have to be on the guard!

In the Swansea City squad is ex- Manchester City player Bersant Celina. Celina has impressed in the Championship and last season scored some wonder goals for Ipswich Town. He will no doubt be keen to make City rue the decision to let him leave and has a penchant for scoring wonder goals so we have been warned!

The exact date for the FA Cup Quarter Final to take place has not yet been set by the TV companies but it will take place between Friday 15 March and Monday 18 March meaning that the planned Premier League fixture for that weekend against Manchester United will now have to be rescheduled until later in the season.
