Man City Square have had a look at some of the impressive statistics beginning to stack up around the performances of Manchester City so far in 2018/19.

In summary all of the signs are good regarding how prolific we are in front of goal, how consistent we have been in dealing with the challenges we have been set and the indications are that rather than surrendering any of our current titles, we are actually in the hunt for more.

Imagine being a side like Liverpool if you will. You have played the best football you have ever managed in the Premier League era. You have scored the most goals you have scored with the best strike force you have ever assembled. You have won more games than you ever achieved at this stage of the Premier League season. You have the highest points total of any Liverpool team at this stage and yet you are second in the Premier League Table.

More from Man City Editorials

Admittedly, City have played one game more, but here is the important thing – a game in hand is worth little unless you get any points from it. So imagine being Liverpool for a moment. Imagine being chased down by the best side in Premier League history. A team who have scored 50 goals more than you this season alone. A team who have a history of playing until the last minute of the  last game – of never giving up. A team that has recent history of catching up and hunting down Liverpool.

So, given all of that imagine how fragile Liverpool must be at the moment. Because the table does not lie, the statistics do not lie and no matter how much coaching will be done to Liverpool. No matter how many psychologists the team talks to in order to try and combat their nerves and performance anxiety, the cold hard fact remains. They are second.

So let us take a moment to look at some of those statistics. I have already pointed out that this season City have scored 50 more goals. In 2018/19 there have so far been 4 games where a team has scored 6 or more goals in the Premier League and City account for three of these games!

City have now notched up scoring more than 1 goal in 15 consecutive Premier League games – matching a record achieved by Tottenham Hotspur back in 1965.

City have played a total of 7 matches at the Etihad Stadium in 2019 during which they have scored 35 goals and conceded just 2.

Sergio Aguero and Raheem Sterling have now both achieved 50 goal involvements each since the start of last season. Sergio has scored 38 goals and achieved 12 assists whilst Raheem has scored 30 goals and has 20 assists.

So, just imagine as a Liverpool fan knowing how good City are and how anxious it would be having City continue in their relentless pursuit. It is probably the reason why the Liverpool fans are all behaving like they do on twitter – they are just scared so maybe we should cut them some slack!

If Liverpool do manage to win the title this season it will be a monumental achievement because as can be seen from the statistics – Manchester City are the best team the Premier League has ever seen.
