Man City Square looks again at the performances of Manchester City during January 2019 and selects a Player of the Month.

January 2019 has been a good month for Manchester City where their attacking prowess has been clearly on show. During the month City have played some eight games and won seven of them, scoring thirty one goals in the process. The City defence has also proven to be pretty solid and has conceded just three goals in this busy month

The month has seen City cement their position of second in the Premier League and they have secured passage to the Carabao Cup Final and are also through to the next round of the FA Cup. However the single defeat in the month, away to Newcastle United in the Premier League, continues to hang heavily over the month.

There have been many and frequent changes to the line up of the first team during these games. The rotation of the first team squad has been in full flow and consequently it has been difficult for players to achieve the consistency and appearance numbers to put them in contention for the Player of the Month.

Although the defence has been very solid and conceded few goals the rotation of players has been such that no single defensive player makes the shortlist of Player of the Month. This has been a month for our attackers.

Sergio Aguero has undertaken a limited number of games but nevertheless has scored some 4 goals in all tournaments including a fantastic and important goal against Liverpool which demonstrated his enduring class.

Leroy Sane has notched 3 goals and scored a dramatic winner over Liverpool which made it clear to everyone that he was firmly back to his very best.

Gabriel Jesus has also had an excellent month scoring 8 goals across the games. For a player who has been out of form the transformation into deadly marksman has been spectacular. Jesus has even been demonstrating his dribbling skills in games which is something we have not seen since his arrival from Brazil.
