Manchester City are approaching what Pep Guardiola has called the meaty part of the season, where anyone who emerges as a front runner is best placed to march onto the Premier League Title.

The next 5 games for City are critical to our title ambitions. Win all 5 and there will be distance between us and any chasing pack. Win all 5 and Liverpool will most likely falter and we will be clear at the summit.

One of the interesting things about the race for the title this year has been about how the matches selected for TV coverage have panned out. In recent weeks Liverpool have played first and City have been trying to catch up.

But this dynamic changes in the next few games. City play first some game weeks and the pressure will all be on Liverpool. Also because of City’s involvement in the Carabao Cup final, it is likely one City game will be postponed and rearranged.

City are scheduled to play Everton away on 23 February, the day before the final so this game will be moved. This means City will also have a game in hand after the next 5 game weeks, which will further place pressure on Liverpool.

Liverpool also have an away trip to Old Trafford to contend with. That falls just before we play in the Carabao Cup Final. If Liverpool lose that game and City win all of their games, that fixture can even open up a lead at the top of the table. Beating Liverpool may well be the biggest and most important game United have.

City also have to go to Old Trafford but it is likely that game will move due to Cup involvement, meaning it will be a midweek evening match at the end of the season. Despite an indifferent campaign, Manchester United may yet end up as kingmakers .

So, these next 5 game weeks are crucial. The progress of City in the domestic Cup competitions will mean they play more fixtures, but this also means they have chance to build momentum.
