Manchester City Draw Burnley At Home in FA Cup 4th Round
By David Crook
Manchester City were rewarded for their performance against Rotherham in the previous round with a home draw in the next round, albeit this time with Premier League opposition.
The 7:0 win against Rotherham United is already beginning to seem like a distant memory as the draw has now been completed for the next round of the FA Cup. City have been drawn against Burnley for the second season in a row in this competition. Last year we met Burnley in the 3rd round and progressed after a comfortable 4:1 win at the Etihad Stadium.
The exact date for the fixture has not yet been confirmed – it will be subject to TV companies having their pick of the available ties. I believe there are several ties which will appear more attractive to the TV companies so believe this game against Burnley will likely be played on Saturday 26 January 2019 with a 3.00pm kick off.

The FA Cup 4th round game will be sandwiched in between the 2nd Leg of the Carabao Cup Semi Final which takes place away at Burton Albion on Wednesday 23rd January and a Premier League game away at Newcastle United on Tuesday 29 January.
Whilst these two away games look quite tricky – hopefully City will gather a significant enough lead in the first leg of the Carabao Cup Semi Final against Burton Albion to enable a weaker team to be fielded in the second leg. Such an approach should enable City to field full strength sides against Burnley and Newcastle.
The FA Cup game against Burnley will be a demanding game. Burnley will have a week before the FA Cup match to prepare, with their previous game coming away at Watford on Saturday 19 January. The Burnley match after us is away at Manchester United on Tuesday 29 January. That is a game they will not be expecting much return from so in all likelihood they will be able to go strong in their FA Cup game, hoping to catch out any weakened side we may field.
To some extent our progress will rest upon whether or not we continue to treat the FA Cup with respect and there is no suggestion Guardiola will do otherwise. So all signs bode well for another exciting Cup tie.
City have underperformed in the FA Cup in recent years. Our solitary win since our takeover coming back in 2011. Our capitulations against Wigan are still strong in the minds of City fans, marking this out as a competition we would duly love to win come May.
