Man City Square look back at the season so far and award scores for the player performances

Goalkeepers

Ederson

A good start brimming with confidence but has been making little impact in our recent poor run. Some great saves and distribution along the way.

Player Rating 7

Aro Muric

Looked capable when playing. A useful understudy.

Player Rating 6

Defenders

Kyle Walker

Has looked tired and in need of a break. Made a series of casual mistakes. Needs to concentrate and use his head more.

Player Rating 6

More from Man City Editorials

Danilo

Restricted by injury but needs a run of games to develop.

Player Rating 6

John Stones

As a centre back he has been great, not so good in midfield. The partnership with Laporte needs time to develop even further on the field.

Player Rating 7

Nicolas Otamendi

Looks like the player we bought rather than the defensive lynchpin of last season. Needs game time.

Player Rating 6

Vincent Kompany

Whilst this is his 10th season and his service has been exemplary, this year marks a turning point. His performance and minutes on the pitch mean he is now our 4th choice centre back. Although I feel we have missed his leadership on the pitch.

Player Rating 6

Aymeric Laporte

Has looked brilliant at times, with his sublime passing and reading of the game a delight. Has been dealt a poor hand by having to cover a series of mistakes at left full back.

Player Rating 9

Benjamin Mendy

It’s reached the point where he is absent so much we forget he is a player. We have not played well since he was injured.

Player Rating 6

Fabian Delph

Captained England but struggled at City.

Player Rating 6

Oleks Zinchenko

Good passing but exposed at left back.

Player Rating 5

Midfield

Fernandinho

A masterclass has kept us in the title race. He has been at his best in the first half of the season.

Player Rating 9

David Silva

Looked fresh as the season started and in good form. Niggled since by injury which has reduced his effectiveness.

Player Rating 8

Kevin De Bruyne

Not yet returned to anything like his best. Needs a run of games.

Player Rating 6

Bernardo Silva

Fantastic start to the season but has drifted off since his injury. Whereas he never gave the ball away, now he seems careless. Has room to improve.

Player Rating 8

Ilkay Gundogan

Has turned up with some great goals but slows the game down too much for my liking.

Player Rating 6

Phil Foden

Flashes of what’s to come. Needs that run of games.

Player Rating 7

Brahim Diaz

Has not exerted himself into serious contention and at 19 that is a worry.

Player Rating 6

Attackers

Leroy Sane

Slow start but still looks like the player most capable of developing into a world class player.

Player Rating 7

Raheem Sterling

Great start and has tailed off as our form declined. Deployed more on the wing when he is more lethal when he comes inside.

Player Rating 8

Riyad Mahrez

Needs to do more to earn a regular starting place. His coming inside from the right seems like one trick. Needs to work harder without the ball

Player Rating 6

Gabriel Jesus

Not good enough so far. Needs to be more clinical to fulfil his potential.

Player Rating 6

Sergio Aguero

Our best striker by a country mile.
