It is approaching the end of 2018 which has been a fantastic year for Manchester City fans, but what will 2019 bring?

Manchester City are currently sat in the doldrums waiting for a strong wind and some fine weather to lift us towards an improved horizon and a better outlook. From this curious vantage point at the half way point of the season there can be seen a real challenge ahead. Make up 10 points on leaders Liverpool.

It’s not to say that City have been terrible. They have not. It is more a case of injuries to big players which have robbed us of our guile, just at the very point where we most needed it to claw past some awkward teams.

More from Man City Editorials

That lack of guile has happened at the same moment we find some of our key players strangely out of form. At the end of the East Lancs Road, Liverpool meanwhile have had all the luck. Decisions have repeatedly gone their way. They have avoided injuries and if anything look as though momentum alone will carry them over the line.

But what we know is that those February nights start adding the return of the Champions League, to the already busy Premier League schedule,  and the FA Cup competition begins to kick in.

Liverpool need to maintain their results despite the relentless fixtures. They also need to contend with the problems in their own heads. The current intensity cannot slip but if it does how will they cope with defeat? What happens if they lose key players?

Liverpool raise their game against top sides but can they do that against Cardiff when the pressure is really on? Make no mistake the title is Liverpool’s to lose at this point and history tells us they are unlikely to carry on their perfect record into the second half of the season.

Next. . dark

City meanwhile need to concentrate on their own game. They can only really add pressure to Liverpool if we win all of our games. So our new year resolution needs to be about maintaining ruthless focus and being present so that we can take advantage of the slip up when it comes.
