Yaya Toure established himself as a legend at Manchester City following his arrival from Barcelona and was an integral part of a squad who achieved 3 Premier League Titles, an FA Cup win and 2 League Cup wins.

It is unfortunate for many of us City fans though that Toure will be equally remembered for what appeared to be some poor behaviour rather than the moments of glory which took us to our first major trophy in many years. The antics of his agent who sought to publicly raise the salary of his player by in turn rubbishing the club, complaining about the lack of a birthday cake and more latterly lampooning and suggesting the manager Pep Guardiola was racist to leave Toure out of the Manchester City side.

The behaviour ensured that despite the Club affording him legend status and naming a training pitch in honour of his contribution, he engendered some strong responses from the fans, some of whom considered Toure had sullied his own legacy through his behaviour. Within days of leaving Manchester City Toure was suggesting in the press through his friend and agent, Dimitry Seluk, he may sign for another top 4 Club in the Premier League.

As the days past there seemed to be little concrete interest emerging in Toure from any English Premier Division Club and it was something of a surprise that he signed a contract to return to the Greek side Olympiacos. He has enjoyed a spell there earlier in his career, but the standard of Greek football seemed a long way away from the heady days of the Premier League.

Seluk had famously said he was so sure his client Toure was so fit he was willing for him to sign for a top 6 club for just £1 a week!

Today Olympiacos have confirmed they have terminated the contract of Toure following a series of relatively ineffectual performances. Quite where this leaves Toure is unclear. He is a free agent and can simply sign for any other club. Or he could retire from football believing his career is behind him.

Toure is now 35 and could well feel he has one swan song left in him. Its not a surprise that journalists have begun to speculate he may move to join the ex Manchester City contingent at West Ham under his old manager Manuel Pelligrini. Whilst I would love to have the opportunity to see Toure play again in the Premier League I believe such a move would be unlikely. The recent performances at Olympiacos suggest he may have neither the motivation nor the application to sustain such a high profile swan song.

It will be interesting to see how the Yaya Toure story concludes but I am sure most Manchester City fans will wish him well, regardless of what he decides to do.
