Leroy Sane has become a key component of the Manchester City team under Pep Guardiola
Manchester City spent heavily in the initial period following the recruitment of Pep Guardiola, securing the services of a range of young and exciting players who had the potential to be the stars of the future City team. A number of these new recruits such as Leroy Sane and Gabriel Jesus were wholly unknown and pundits and the media questioned the value of these purchases.
With hindsight the investments made in securing these young players look like part of some fantastic coordinated transfer business which is almost unrivalled in recent years. All of these young players have settled well, earned places in their respective international teams and proven to play a valuable part in Manchester City’s record breaking 2017/18 campaign.
Since that point Manchester City have been engaged in a plan to reward these young players by signing them to new and improved contract terms over a longer period. This is partly to protect the players value, to build upon the existing Manchester City squad and to ward off any potential suitors given the stellar growth in value of these players.

So far Fernandinho. Kevin de Bruyne, Gabriel Jesus, Sergio Aguero, Raheem Sterling, David Silva, Ederson, Phil Foden and even Guardiola have tied themselves to the Club for extended periods. This will mean the core of the Manchester City squad are tied for most of the next 4 or 5 seasons. That really is a scary prospect for the rest of the Premier League, given this squad has a real chance to develop and improve even further.
Leroy Sane has been a key element of our recent success with his superbly balanced pacey runs unsettling opposition defences. He has added a real hunger for goals and seems well settled in our team. He has recently started a family with his girlfriend and seems settled in Manchester.
Manchester City and Leroy Sane are reportedly in discussions over a new contract and all the noises emanating from the Club and players camp suggest a deal is wanted by both parties and it is just a question of practicalities which remain in the negotiations.
Much has been written in recent weeks regarding the development of Raheem Sterling under Guardiola, but it is my view Sane has the potential to be a more complete player than Sterling. He has pace, skill and a good range of shooting and could be a fantastic weapon for Guardiola to deploy down the middle in a more central attacking role. Adding consistent goal scoring to Sane would make him one of the most valuable players in the world. Getting him on an extended contract will mean we have many more years to marvel at Sane in blue.
