Manchester City Left Back Benjamin Mendy has suffered another knee injury

Since joining Manchester City back in 2017 Mendy has been unlucky with injuries which have seriously curtailed his Manchester City career. Within weeks of joining he suffered a serious knee injury and spent most of the season in the treatment room.

Following lengthy rehabilitation work Mendy returned to first team action back in April 2018 and ended up winning Premier League and World Cup winners medals.

After making an electric start to the 2018/19 season and racking up an impressive series of assists he received further injury set back, this time a minor knee injury to his other knee. This was Mendy on the airlines again.

Having recently returned to first team action, Mendy sustained a further injury in the win against Manchester United last weekend.  Mendy was withdrawn from the France squad for the current round of international games but there was no word about the extent of any injury.

Rumours started today when Mendy posted pictures from Barcelona on Instagram which is where Guardiola’s knee specialist, Dr Cugat, has a hospital.

Manchester City have tonight confirmed Mendy has had surgery on a meniscus knee injury but have so far provided no other details.

The meniscus is a knee ligament and each knee has a pair. Meniscus injuries are common in sports men and women and they are high as serious as cruciate ligament injuries, which can be career threatening.

Treatment of meniscus knee ligament injuries tends to be through keyhole surgery. The amount of recovery time required varies depending exactly upon what kind of meniscus repair has been undertaken.

Surgery can be undertaken to fully repair or rebuild the ligament, or can simply involve trimming to improve movement. Most commonly footballers seem to take between 4 and 6 weeks to recover to full fitness following surgery.

Readers may recall prior to the 2014 World Cup Luis Sanchez underwent similar surgery and was fit to face England after some 4 weeks out.

Mendy now faces his 3rd injury layoff at Manchester City and if his hoped he will make a full recovery in time to assist our on going quest to retain the League title.
