Manchester City On Course to Break More Records?

A Winning Streak

Manchester City have played 16 Premier League games since April during which they have not lost a single match. The consistency in performance is a key feature in teams which aspire to being serial winners. During these 16 Premier League games Manchester City  have scored 43 goals and conceded 6.

Experienced Youngsters

Raheem Sterling may well be delivering some of his best form under Pep Guardiola. He is finding an unerring ability to tear defences apart, has found his goal touch and seems to regularly find the correct pass even under pressure. The improvement in his all round play has been immense. The fact he has achieved this whilst age 23 is remarkable. He has made 200 Premier League appearances which is incredible given his age and rightfully this statistic alone gives an indication of his importance to top sides. If he stays in England he may well have the opportunity to become a record appearance holder, given he may have a further 10 years ahead of him in the game,

Silva on Fire

In the summer, following the World Cup David Silva announced his retirement from International Football after an impressive career which has seen him win both the World Cup and European Championship. In concentrating upon his remaining Manchester City career we have gained the sole attention of one of the greatest unsung players in the game of football. Remarkably, despite his advancing years David Silva has racked up 29 goal chances in open play so far this season – the most in any of the Top 5 European Leagues

Clean Sheet Kings

Since beginning his revolution of English football much of the Media attention has focused on Manchester City and their perceived defensive frailties. It has been regularly pointed out that they can’t defend or tackle. Of course most of these judgements were cast in Guardiola’s first season when he was working with an inherited squad, many of whom could not cope with the demands placed upon them. But of course Guardiola recruited carefully the players he wanted and right now Manchester City have achieved 6 consecutive clean sheets.

The New Central Defence

Guardiola had a clear vision of the kind of defensive partnership which he needed to build his team around and  has invested over £100 million to build it. The Aymeric Laporte/John Stones Central Defensive Partnership is probably currently the most effective in Europe and whilst playing together has only conceded 1 goal.

Solid at the Back

Manchester City have only conceded 3 goals in the League this season, the fewest in the first 10 games since 2010

Goal Difference is King

Manchester City have amassed an impressive +24 Goal difference so far this season. Our nearest contenders Liverpool are currently on +16, and we know from experience already that goal difference can win League Titles.

City have played half the Top 6 Away from Home Already

Since the season started Manchester City have played Arsenal away at the Emirates, securing a 2:0 win. They followed that up with a creditable draw at Liverpool and a win away at Tottenham. Conversely Liverpool have beaten Tottenham away and drawn at home to City and away to Chelsea.
