Manchester City might not have been the club at the centre of attention on a frenetic Premier League transfer deadline day, but they did make one promising signing which perhaps went under the radar.

Iran-born Australia international Daniel Arzani, recently in the headlines as he became the youngest Australian player at a World Cup, made the switch from Melbourne City to the Sky Blues in the final stages of the summer window.

The 19-year-old made 16 appearances in the Australian A-League regular season last term, and also featured in Melbourne City’s quest for glory. Unfortunately for him and the team, local rivals Melbourne Victory ran out winners, and Arzani’s former side could struggle without the fledgling youngster.

Despite his transfer to Manchester City, Arzani is set to earn a loan move to Celtic where he will spend the remainder of this season. He has already proven his quality at international level, an experience only few young players get, and he has clocked up five caps and one goal.

While he only played a bit-part role in Australia’s admittedly short-lived World Cup campaign, even getting picked for the squad was a fantastic honour.

Arzani looks destined to follow the impressive path of former City man Aaron Mooy, who is now one of Huddersfield’s most talented players. The Australian midfielder also made the switch from Melbourne to Manchester, and after being loaned out to the Terriers made the move permanent.

The future of Daniel Arzani looks in very safe hands with Brendan Rodgers and Celtic, whose venture for Champions League football could include the Australian, with the former Liverpool manager set to have him at his disposal.

Arzani is unlikely to make a first team appearance for Manchester City anytime soon, however his progress in Scotland will be monitored and the bright starlet could yet become a welcome addition to Guardiola’s ranks in seasons to come.
