With the contracts of the older generation coming to the end in the next two years, it is paramount that Manchester City sign up their youngsters to long-term contracts.

That is what the club has done in extending Gabriel Jesus’ contract, keeping him at the Etihad Stadium until 2023.

After David Silva and Sergio Aguero have both expressed they are unlikely to extend their contracts and return to their homeland, the signings of the Brazilian and Leroy Sane to longer contracts is vital for business and the team on the pitch.

Signed two years to the day of his renewal, the Palmerias youth graduate has scored many match winners in the past and is likely to continue that trait for many more years to come.

He scored the only goal against Southampton to ensure City became the first team to be centurions and has gone on to score 24 goals in 53 appearances for the Blues, with the £27 million fee proving quite a bargain in today’s market.

Although he had a disappointing tournament for his national side at the World Cup, the Sao Paulo born forward remains a favourite amongst the blues of Manchester due to his performances and effort in games.

Pep Guardiola has noticed that effort as he made it his priority to keep the striker for the long-term and made sure the summer interest from Barcelona was ignored.

"“We cannot allow Gabriel to go out for another club because he is so young. His heart, his courage, his fight to put in every effort for the team is incredible. I never met one striker who fights like he does for the team.” – Pep Guardiola speaking ahead of Community Shield."

Speaking to the club’s website, the Brazilian has expressed his delight in signing a new contract and continuing his journey as a footballer and a person.

"“I can say that it was the best decision I’ve made in my life to come to Manchester City because whilst I’m here I’m improving as a professional and as a person. Also thanks to the Club for being so organised and focused since I arrived. Pep had an important role in my signing, but also the Club. City is a huge Club and it is getting bigger and bigger so I just want to say thanks for everything.” Gabriel Jesus."
