Driven by last seasons failure to finish in the coveted top four slots and consequently dropping into the Europa league should serve as both a fillip and provide some ability to just concentrate on the league.

History tells us these kinds of seasons tend to boost a team’s performance in the marathon that is the Premier League.

Sarri should remodel the way they play from the cagey Conte style in recent seasons but it may take some time to establish the system and a few games to deploy the resources effectively.

Adding Jorginho seems like good business with his passing range, but whether he converts the side to a flat back four seems dependent upon how much money is left in the kitty for reinforcements.

I am guessing this may depend on how much money is raised through sales with Hazard and Kante most likely to move on.

All in all that combination of complexity will probably mean Chelsea drop some points in their first eight games probably leaving them in the throng of the chasing pack, 5/6 points off top.
