It was confirmed today that Manchester City’s young star Leroy Sane has been omitted from Germany’s final World Cup Squad.

Many football fans gasped and did a quick double take of the list when the Joachim Low’s final squad was released to the public.

One of the first person to react to the news was Manchester City defender Kyle Walker, who expressed his amazement with a picture on his social media.

The midfielder responded to his teammate’s post and joked, “Well u’re lucky that u don’t have to play against me bro”.

Elaquim Mangala, Michael Ballack and Gary Lineker followed Walker’s social media post with the reaction of their own.

A number of City fans of social media echoed that sentiment of surprise, however they saw the positives into Sane’s exclusion. The 22-year-old will now go on holiday and will have a full pre-season ready for the defence of the Premier League title.

The PFA Young Player of the Year has scored 14 goals and 17 assists for City this year and has wowed many fans along the way. The statistics speak for themselves as he finds himself ahead of picked Julian Brandt, Julian Draxler and Marco Reus in the squad.

Next: Will Jorginho join Leroy Sane for pre-season?

Germany manager, Joachim Low, revealed in a press conference that the competition was close between Sane and Brandt, with the Leverkusen winger picked on the basis of his greater defensive qualities and versatility.

He said, “We had to decide; the squad must be balanced, we cannot take a player away from a defensive position and say we take an offensive (player).

“If something happens at the back, we need alternatives, so I had to make that hard decision.”

Should any injuries occur to any midfielders or forwards then I would imagine that Sane will be soon on the plane to Russia to feature in the summer tournament.
