The Premier League had been won by Manchester City a few games ago. All that remained now was to physically get hands on the prestigious silverware. First, there was a small matter of a Premier League fixture with Huddersfield to play first.

Maybe there was one eye on that trophy. Maybe it’s just been a long, tough season and City just ran out of steam. Either way the goal less draw against a side fighting relegation was not what the script writers had penned.

In the grand scheme of things, the 0-0 will mean nothing. The rest of the day, the trophy lift and all the scenes at the Etihad after the final whistle will be what’s remembered. So how did our boys do in their penultimate home game of the season?

Ederson – 7.

Was called on more times in this game than I seem to remember in most recent games. Made some good saves, one from point-blank range early on in the game. Another clean sheet for the Brazilian could see him make a late run at the golden glove.

Walker – 7.

Thought the English defender had a pretty decent game. Yes he was caught out a couple of times, but his pace saved him. On the attacking aspect of the game, he did provide an outlet.

Stones – 6.

Good to see the young defender returning to the side. As you might expect, he looked a little rusty early on. As the game went on though, he got back into the rhythm.

Otamendi – 7.

Not too much to do at the back, but when he was called upon he did it well. Almost got the winner in the final minutes also. He continues to have his best season for the Blues.

Delph – 7.

Once again, Delph did the job required as a Pep Guardiola left back. Subbed off just before the hour mark it was mainly to give Mendy some time, and inject more pace, rather than his performance.

Fernandinho -8.

Once again played the role of unsung hero perfectly. Shielding the defence, and providing a start to attacks, he quietly went about his game.

De Bruyne – 6.

Wasn’t the greatest performance from the Belgium International. Subbed off with a little over 20 minutes to go he did still provide some threats.

Silva – 7.

Captaining the side for the day, Merlin was never still. That said, he missed a chance to put City up early on, shooting straight at the keeper. That, along with mis-placed passes, he seemed to lack a little sharpness.

Sterling – 6.

Top of the League all season, and he now has a winner’s medal. Will this be the confidence boost he needs to kick on a level.

Sane – 6.

Frustrating for the Young Player of the Year. Full of running, but lacking that cutting edge.

Jesus – 5.

Wasn’t sure, at points, if he was even on the field. Not a great performance from the Brazilian who may be thinking about Russia.

Next: Eleven To Start Against Huddersfield

Mendy (sub on 57) – 7.

Got to love this guy. Ran at the defense and is looking to build on his fitness.

Gundogan (sub on 67) – 6.

Did a good job when he came on, but couldn’t really get a hold of the game.

Bernardo (sub on 73) – 6.

I would prefer this guy to start alongside Raheem and Leroy rather than Jesus. I think their rotation would provide much better options up front than Gabby.
