Our Day, But Still Respect:

I had written an article a few days ago about the way City fans, players and ex players reacted to the news about Ferguson. Of course, the ex-Manchester United manager suffered a brain haemorrhage and is currently in hospital.

Good wishes and get wells were expressed through social media from all walks of fans, City included. Talk radio stations were full of callers who began by saying their best wishes to Fergie and his family.

It was a nice gesture, but even I didn’t expect to see City fans with a Fergie banner for our trophy presentation. The show went on, but our fans still showed their class, even when it was meant to be all about City.

Similar was the case when the Manchester derby landed on the 50th anniversary of the Munich air disaster. City fans observed the day in the best possible way. Respectful through the silence, and wreath laying.

City and the fans at the stadium made me proud on Sunday. It’s part of why I love the club and why, when in the third tier, we attracted record numbers. Nothing is taken for granted, and the majority remain humble.
