Manchester City: Eleven to Hammer home EPL record
With the title already wrapped up, it is just a case of checking off records for the Blues. The party atmosphere at home to Swansea last time out may not be as evident on Sunday. That game showed just how good the Blues can be when the shackles, and pressure, is off.
With Liverpool dropping points at home to Stoke on Saturday, and United not playing until after the Cityzens, Pep’s side could be nineteen points ahead of second place. That would put them on course to beat the record held by United, of the biggest winning margin. Back in the 1999-2000 season, United finished 18 points above second place Arsenal.
One record which has an outside possibility of falling on Sunday is the goals in a season record. Currently on 98, Manchester City are only five goals away from equalling Chelsea’s total of 103 under Carlo Anchelotti. With the free scoring City this season, that record will surely fall within the next few weeks.
To Sundays game though. How should Pep line up? There was, unfortunately, no midweek Champions League game for the Blues. So, with nothing to play for but records, does he go strong, give youth a chance, or a bit of both?
