Manchester City: What now for Joe Hart
Three Lions:
Like City, Harts England career is also coming up to that decade mark. Making his debut in 2008 against Trinidad and Tobago he then was selected to go to the 2010 World Cup. From then he has rarely been anything but England’s number one.
Again, as with City, it seems as if the tide is turning here too, but in a reverse scenario to his club side. Whereas Pep moved him out and it was the City fans were reluctant to see him go, Internationally it has been the fans calling for a different option.
Gareth Southgate has still said Hart is his the best we have, but Tom Heaton, Fraser Foster, Jordan Pickford and Jack Butland are all making their cases. For the latter two, they represent youth in the position, and therefore a chance to build again.
It is likely, but by no means certain, that Joe will be in that plane to Russia. If he is it could be his last World Cup, maybe even last tournament for the Three Lions. The two goals he conceded against Scotland in particular started the talk of a replacement, and that has only grown louder in recent months.
A perceived inability to get down quickly close to his left has even his most ardent supporters asking if this is the end of Harts International career. For me, I would have to say whether he goes to Russia or not, there will be no Joe Hart for England after July.
