Defensive Errors Cost:

Again, when the team sheet was announced, my concern was the Liverpool forward trio going against three City defenders. For the most part, either by luck, skill or both, we were not threatened too much. The stats read that were kept Liverpool to just five shots, only three of which were on target.

The problem came when two of those shots on target found the net. Showing our weak defensive underbelly, the Guardiola plan is that we will out score the opponent. Again, looking at the stats, we should have. A cool twenty attempts overall, four times as many as Liverpool. However, only three were on target.

In my player ratings I gave the players lower ratings because of the performance and errors. What that doesn’t take into account though is tiredness of the players. Is fatigue the cause, not only for a leaky defense, but also an impotent attack?
