It hasn’t really even been a debate. Ask any City fan who the best player to wear the shirt has been over the last decade and most will come back, Merlin. Now it appears the consensus is that he may have surpassed legends from glory years past too.

That, of course, is a debate for the bars and terraces. For me though I think you have to look at his performances which have gone along with his off field, personal problems. Quiet and private, all we knew at first was that David was away for personal reasons.

Coming back for the occasional game over the last few months the reason was revealed and, I think, everyone understood. He only returned to City when he could focus on the game and never let the side down when he was on the field.

As a result of the ongoing issues with young Mateo, he did not travel with the rest of the side to Abu Dhabi for warm weather training. The positive news is that he has since revealed that his son is getting stronger and better.
