One Record Gained, Others Finished:

Following up the Premier League pass record on Sunday, City picked up the Champions League pass record. City were dominant in possession and managed to complete 978 passes. That said, unlike Sunday, it was more backwards and sideways than pushing forward. Pep Guardiola commented on that fact after the game, stating that passing for passing sake is not football.

With the defeat, Manchester City’s home winning streak came to an end. That stretches back 13 games, while the undefeated at home record goes back further. For the last thirty-six games played at the Etihad, the visitors have left with a single point at the most. FC Basel have now ended both streaks, and that will certainly be the boost they need for the rest of their season.
