A number of players here who could be considered legends for both clubs. Craig Bellamy (pictured) certainly left us City fans with some decent memories.

Shay Given left Tyneside for us, and after a decade with them, became our number one. On the bench for our first FA Cup win in 2010/11, he still received a winner’s medal.

Other names to play for both include Andy Cole, Sylvain Distin, Darren Huckerby, Stephen Ireland, James Milner, Gary Megson, Antoine Sibierski, Peter Beardsley and John Burridge!

A notable exclusion from that list is Joey Barton. Playing for us, and leaving under a cloud after several incidents. Stubbing out a cigarette in a youth players face and an assault on Ousmane Dabo, which saw him arrested. He then moved to Newcastle, where he continued his petulance. A full circle coming on the final day of the 2011/12 season when he was sent off against us as we went on to lift the title.

On the other end of that spectrum is George Heslop. The guy spent two years, playing 27 games for Newcastle, before eventually moving to City (via Everton). With us he played 162 times over six plus seasons.

He was an ever-present in our promotion season, the first under Joe Mercer, and again in our League title season in 1968. He didn’t play in any of our FA Cup games leading to the win in 1969, but was there for the League Cup Final the following season and the European Cup Winners Cup.
