Manchester City restored their eight point lead at the top of the Premier League midweek, as they eventually saw off a plucky Southampton side. Although dominant again, City had to wait until late to secure all three points.

Taking the lead early in the second half, City were heading for a point with time running down. Oriol Romeu, assisted by Sofaine Boufal, had leveled the tie with 15 minutes remaining. Emotions could hardly be contained as Raheem Sterling secured victory with almost the last kick of he game.
