This one has gained legs over the past few weeks. Initially, reports from Spain, were dismissed. Now, however, it seems that it may be further down the road than most thought.

Apparantly we had scouts in the stands to watch him and, with Benjamin Mendy out for most of the season, Pep’s hand might be forced.

At only twenty years old, the left-back could be part of the team for years to come. Manchester United have also been interested in signing Martin, but I think the attacking minded defender would not have to think much about which managers style suited his game more.

The positives with this move, other than his age, is that the Espanyol player woudn’t be cup-tied. He has recently signed a long term contract with his current side, and they are not in a position where they need to sell. There is a £35.5 million pound buy-out clause in his contract though, and that would probably be what was needed to get our man.

With that money we get a left back who not only defends, but can get forward and put in crosses. A left sided Kyle Walker, an athlete, would balance the side more than Fabian Delph does. The Englishman has done well in that position so far, but he is far from the long term solution.
