Manchester City Profiles: Vincent Kompany – Uncertain Future

Since joining City as part of the influx of capital into the team, Vinny has been an excellent leader and rock-solid defender in the heart of our system for much of his time since. His abilities have lead to helping City become Premier League Champions twice in that time span, and numerous other smaller honors.
When fully fit and able to practice regularly, Kompany is easily one of the top centrebacks in Europe. This is illustrated by the praise he has received from every City manager that has been at City since joining, a market valuation that was at one time €35 million, and his incredible performances of poise and certainty that he so often put in on the pitch.
This season, Kompany has spent great swaths of time injured or on the bench for City. Starting only one Premier League game, being a late sub in another, and being subbed off less than forty minutes into another for injury. The player has always been “injury prone” at least in the last three or four years, and has done nothing to shake that moniker this season.
What is most concerning for City fans is that Kompany appeared in only fourteen EPL matches last season, with several of them being substitute performances. It would appear, that at only thirty of years of age, the prime for many players, that Vinny’s body can no longer stand up to the rigors of premier league football.
