This weekend Manchester City return to FA Cup action. We take a look back at the club’s results and progress over the past decade.

Saturday Manchester City take on Huddersfield in the Round of 16 in the FA Cup. The club has won the competition five times, but how has the last decade been to City?

Even a strong as the club has been as an organization over the past ten years, their success in the FA Cup is a bit behind the overall growth.

The Bad Years

  • 2015/16: An ugly 5-1 loss away to Chelsea in the fifth round.
  • 2014/15: A 2-0 loss in the fourth round, at home, to a Middlesbrough side that had yet to reach the EPL.
  • 2011/12: A year after winning the Cup, City had maybe their worst run in the last decade. Drawn in the 3rd round against United, they were knocked out 3-2.
  • 2009/10: Pushed to a replay, City still could manage to get past Stoke City, falling 3-1 in the away trip.
  • 2008/09: Maybe this is worse? An opening round (for EPL teams) exit to Nottingham Forest 3-0, and at home.
  • 2007/08: After beating West Ham, the club traveled to and loss at Sheffield United 2-1.

Close, but no Wembley

  • 2013/14: They reached the sixth round, but dropped a 2-1 result to Wigan at home.
  • 2006/07: A favorable set of draws, ended when City loss 2-0 at Blackburn, one match away from Wembley.

The Wembley Years

  • 2012/13: Back in the Final, City were favorites when they fell to Wigan 1-0.
  • 2010/11: CHAMPIONS! After beating United in the semi-finals, City went on to top Stoke City 1-0 in the Final.

In case you were wondering, the five Cup victories for Man City were in the 1903/04, 1933/34, 1955/56, 1968/69 and 2010/11 seasons.

If you are wondering about City’s opponents’ history, their have won the FA Cup once – back in 1922. They also made it to the final, but loss, four other times in 1920, 1928, 1930, 1938. Quite a while back to find any Cup success for Huddersfield.
