Past

Gabriel Jesus kicked off his footballing career in 2010 at the age of twelve, when he began playing for Brazilian youth side Atletica Anhanguera. The player was snapped up in early 2012 by Brazilian top side Palmeiras, where he played for their youth side until early 2013.

Jesus’ potential was obvious from a very young age, and he began attracting interest from some top European clubs very quickly. After an excellent 2015 season, Jesus was clearly entrenched in world football’s transfer spotlight. With an alleged release clause present in his contract, the word of the day seemed not to be if he would transfer, but to whom, with top clubs Real Madrid and Barcelona said to be fighting for his signature. His teammates even felt compelled to throw their opinions out as to which club he should choose.

Gabriel Jesus had other plans, and opted to stick around with Palmeiras another year to help them win a Brazilian league title. This segwayed the player into an unbelievable 2016 season. For footballing fans everywhere who were still oblivious to the player, 2016 only served to stoke the flames of anticipation behind a move. In the Brazilian league alone that year, Jesus made twenty-six league appearances scoring twelve goals and assisting five. At the age of only eighteen, such production and skill was unprecedented.

After agreeing to move to Manchester City this past summer, Jesus remained at Palmeiras until the January window, so that he could see through his chance to deliver a championship to his home club. And deliver he did, helping the club to their first title in twenty-two years before heading to City.
