James Henry‘s 48th minute strike put Wanderers up at Selhurst before Palace fought back. Substitute forward Christian Benteke headed Palace level in the 68th before his right-footed effort nine minutes later ended up being the game-winner.
2016-17 hasn’t been the most exciting season for the South London club, who currently are in 17th in the Barclays Premier League. Sitting above the relegation zone only due to goal-differential, Palace has been under Sam Allardyce after Alan Pardew was relieved of his duties back in December.
Manchester City advanced to the fourth round after thumping West Ham United 5-0 away from home. Goals from Yaya Toure, David Silva, Sergio Aguero, and John Stones paired with a West Ham own-goal saw the Citizens through.
Manchester City earned a reasonable draw for the fourth round, against a side they have had success against previously. City defeated Palace 2-1 in their Premier League meeting at Selhurst back on November 19th. A brace from Yaya Toure saw Manchester City earn a crucial three points.
Their last meeting in a cup competition came back in the fourth round of the 2015-16 English League Cup. Manchester City defeated Palace at the Etihad 5-1 to advance.
However, for this fixture we could Pep Guardiola rotate some players with a league fixture just four days after. They travel to West Ham in Premier League play on February 1st. Regardless, Pep Guardiola will want to advance in this prestigious and historic competition.
