Yaya Toure should still leave Manchester City despite recent run of form
No matter how he plays for the remainder of the season, Yaya Toure should not sign a new contract with Manchester City.
This is Yaya Toure‘s last season at Manchester City — at least it should be.
There’s little point in denying the renaissance Toure has had after he and Pep Guardiola “made up.” If by necessity due to injury, force of play, or both, Toure’s carved himself a little niche in Guardiola’s first team. He has nine appearance and three goals, two of which came as an unforgettable brace against Crystal Palace just after his reconciliation with Guardiola.

But he’s still Yaya Toure, and that’s more than enough reason to part ways when everyone hangs up their cleats for the summer.
First of all, his fickle play isn’t reliable. What is reliable is that his age is 33 — his powers will continue to degrade. Toure also cuts a lumbering figure, slow in possession and moving the ball. This does not mix well with the style of play Guardiola wants to play.

And that’s the main reason here behind moving on: Guardiola and Toure don’t mix at all. They weren’t chummy at Barcelona; they weren’t chummy until Guardiola had need of him — mainly he has to deploy 10 field players and Ilkay Gundogan and Fabian Delph are unavailable because of fitness.
City is also in a period of transition. That’s how this season should be viewed. Guardiola has the unenviable task of remaking the Citizens in his image while trying to maintain a squad capable of winning the Premier League title. He has footballers that aren’t a part of his long-term plans, an old guard in need of replacing: Pablo Zabaleta, Aleksandar Kolarov, Gael Clichy, Bacary Sagna, Yaya Toure.
The truth is City needs to get younger and faster, especially on the flanks. That means the hulking, domineering midfielder of City’s yesteryear, Yaya Toure, is extinct.
