Where better to look to strengthen your squad than the global network of players setup by your parent organization? The City Group has invested in teams around the world, including NYCFC and Melbourne City. Now Manchester City look set to give a trial period to a quality young left back.

Ronald Matarrita is 22 and currently plays for New York City FC in the MLS after a move from Alajuelense. He already has 17 caps for the Costa Rican national team, and is seen as one of the top young players in the MLS.

He ended up appearing in the majority of NYCFC’s matches this year, and has received praise from head coach Patrick Vieira.

The City Group Advantage

This is exactly what the City Group project is suppose to do. The additional clubs help identify quality talent from around the world and give them first team experience, while enabling Manchester City to have the first chance to elevate the players to the Premier League level.

Matarrita is a great player for Pep to pickup as a trialist. He is a quality young left back, that also likes to get forward and provide width to attacks. He prefers the ball at his feet and has great speed.

Having spent the last year playing with David Villa, Andre Pirlo, and Frank Lampard, while being managed by Patrick Vieira, he is sure to have improved his game significantly. This is a win-win situation. If he works out, City pick up a solid young defender and the grand plan of the City Group is paying off.

Even if he doesn’t stick at City, he will have gained solid experience at the Etihad, and return to NYCFC a better player.
