Report Card: Grading Manchester City’s defenders so far

Nicolas Otamendi: A-

Bought last season to help bolster City’s defense, the Argentine quickly established himself as one of City’s best defenders. His style seemed very different than traditional Guardiola defenders, and there was concern Otamendi might find himself on the outside looking in this year. With Kompany’s issues has meant the Argentine was allowed to adapt and change while playing in the starting XI and Otamendi has gotten better and better as the year has gone on.
