Future

So, given all that we know about the German midfielder, what can Manchester City fans expect from Gundogan going forward this season and beyond?

At only 25, the player has a great chance to become a fixture in the team for many more seasons. With arguably still two to three years before he hits his prime as a football player, Gundogan could continue to grow and hone his enormous talents under Guardiola.

Guardiola is a coach that loves to make room in his squads for midfielders with a high-possession ability, and with a versatile passing range and a good engine, Gundo certainly fits the profile. While not really a regular goalscorer, the player probably fits best at City in a central midfield role. This is a position that can occasionally be overlooked and underestimated by fans, as fruits of a central midfielder’s labors are often intangible. However, having an elite player at the position can make all of the difference in the world.

Based on his past performances and what he has shown so far in a City shirt, Gundogan absolutely has the chance to become a pivotal player in the middle for the club.

The biggest question remaining is the player’s resistance to injury. The Premier League is widely regarded as one of the most physical leagues, and a lengthy season will likely expose the player to some dangerous situations.

In order to contribute and become a legend for City one day, Gundogan will first have to prove that he can remain on the field.

Personally, I believe Gundogan can overcome his injury history, and become a key contributor for City. He is a player that was worth taking a chance on, and could make all of the difference for us.
