Both Manchester City youth teams – EDS and Academy – returned to the pitch this weekend in their respective leagues. Match results and news updates.

Returning to league action after the 4-0 victory over Celtic in the Youth Champions League, the Manchester City EDS team battled Tottenham’s U23 side. Unlike the Premier League, this was not a battle of the top two, but rather points City needed to remain in contention for the top of the league.

At White Hart Lane, Spurs striker Ryan Loft was sent off, giving City the man advantage. Goals from Javairo Dilrosun and Paolo Fernandes sealed the match, with Tottenham earning and converting a late penalty. The 2-1 victory sees City move to third place in the table, only one point behind leaders Everton, who have a game in hand.

Central defender Cameron Humphreys received the Man of the Match award for his part in shutting down the Tottenham attack for most of the match.

City first team fans will recognize Billy O’Brien’s name after his Champions League squad inclusion, as well as Brahim Diaz. Both started in the match.

Up next for the EDS squad is a return to the Youth Champions League and a trip to Barcelona.

The Academy

Manchester City’s U18 squad was also in action over the weekend topping Derby County 3-1. The result has City sitting second in the EPL U18 table, only two points behind United’s side. However, City have three matches in hand, putting them in clear control of the league at the moment.

The Academy team will remain focused on league play until December, when they enter the draw for the FA Youth Cup. City are two-time winners of the competition, with the last coming in 2008.
