Playing for 90
Looking forward to Nolito‘s future at City, given his history and present performances, what are some real expectations for the Spanish forward?
To say he will stay with City many, many more years is unlikely, as he turns 30 on Oct. 15 — not many players possess the ability to stave off father time — a figure that indicates a slowing down for all professional athletes down.
However, to say he cannot do great things for the club and be remembered as an important player under City’s formative years under Pep would be wrong. He signed with City on a three-year deal and could stay longer if his legs stay with him. He is an excellent creator, as his past body of work proves, and he is an extremely hardworking player on the pitch — a joy to watch most weeks.
I think in order to cement himself in City history, he has to play a part in lofty goals in the next few years. A league title or a Champions League final would go a long way towards doing that. Looking at Nolito’s body of work for Celta, it is not impossible for him to reach huge numbers for the club in Europe and to be a huge outlet of creativity for City alongside David Silva and Kevin De Bruyne.
Just how much he can accomplish this in the prime of his career, we can only speculate, but I believe Nolito can be remembered as a City hero, though his time here may be too short to become a legend.
