The Done Deal 4?

Geronimo Rulli, 25, Real Sociedad, Goalkeeper

OK, now here we go. The ongoing saga with Rulli honestly must be among the most confusing this summer and potentially ever. First we were in the hunt to buy him, then Real Sociedad bought him having had him on loan, then actually we bought him with intent to loan to Sociedad only to buy him back later for some inexplicable reason. Even I’m confused.

Anyway, it seems now this is finally a done deal, as reported by the Manchester Evening News, just awaiting official confirmation from the club, as you do. The details are unknown yet, though it sounds like the fee could be in the region of £5million and he will indeed be loaned back to Real Sociedad for now.

That much makes sense as City will want him to get as much game time and experience as possible till he’s ready to take over from Hart. Speaking of Hart though, this will do little to stave off the interest in other keepers for the immediate lineup at the Etihad, as new rumours surface every day. Pep is well known to be interested in at very least having competition for Hart and perhaps even a replacement with superior distribution skills.

Rulli could well one day provide that, but for now he remains young and still has much development before he becomes the superstar goalkeeper he’s projected to be. That he belongs to Manchester City is a statement from Pep of his building for the future, not just the present campaign. A team fashioned according to his style, playing his football and working as he sees fit, this is what we are getting now and perhaps long after he will have moved on.
