Ivory Coast striker Wilfried Bony finally arrived at Manchester City’s Etihad Stadium this afternoon for the first time since completing a £28million switch from Swansea City.
Monday afternoon also saw the return of City’s influential midfielder Yaya Toure, who was away along with compatriot Bony on national duty with Ivory Coast for the African Cup Of Nations – an assignment which they successfully completed. Bony’s eagerly anticipated arrival at the Etihad Stadium had been stretched due to a visa issue, although, everything is now in place for him to make a start to his life with the reigning Premier League champions.
Bony’s return to training with City has been met with a considerable amount of buzz from fans who are hopeful of getting a glimpse of Manuel Pellegrini’s latest acquisition when the Citizens take on Newcastle United this Saturday.
With the arrival of the Ivorian, a thick cloud of doubt and uncertainty has been cast over the future of Stevan Jovetic, who was recently replaced by Bony in City’s Champions League squad. The Montenegrin’s City career has been injury-ravaged, and he has not lived up to the billing after securing a big-money move from Italian side Fiorentina.
One Manchester City player who is extremely delighted with Bony’s arrival is Spanish winger Jesus Navas. He was recently quoted saying:
"Bony is a top striker who has always performed very well when he’s played against us.He is powerful, has good technique and excellent movement so I’m really looking forward to playing alongside him.‘He is a great addition to the strikers we already have and I think he will do really well at City. Wilfried has similar strengths to Alvaro (Negredo) in that they both play very well with their back to goal."
