Fernandinho

Like a metronome he seems to keep going. Breaking up and turning over possession and releasing the team into attacking phases by subtle change overs. Made several last ditch tackles to stop quick breaks and one excellent challenge in the area to prevent a shot being taken. Such a good player that we tend to overlook the quality of his passing which was fully evident today, including one lofted pass which created a good goal opportunity.

David Silva

This may have been off the back of his poorest run in our side but today Silva seized his moment. Controlled and aggressive he looked to create and was involved in a number of our best moments in this game. There were a few moments where he gave the ball away but he came back from this and his second half performance was exemplary.

Ilkay Gundogan

Until the injury to Fernandinho he played a traditional number 8 role but looked anonymous at points. Once into the number 6 role I thought he resumed his best performances for us. A brilliant player to have who has a big role to play in our next four games so we need him back and fit as soon as possible.
