Tribute to Bernard Halford

Last week long term club servant Bernard Halford sadly passed away. Bernard was known to almost all City fans of a certain age because even if you did not get the chance to meet him in person he signed every ticket we bought for as long as I could remember!

Halford was a secretary at Manchester City for over 40 years and during this colourful period of our history he spent equal amounts of time trying to preserve our club through raising income and signing off all of our player purchases until his retirement some 10 years ago. It is astonishing to think he was around for every transfer from Dennis Law in 1973 to Robinho in 2008.

In the run up to the Fulham game there was debate on social media amongst Manchester City fans and one fan in particular suggested wearing red and black in tribute to reflect our historic away colours.

This suggestion was initially embraced by Manchester City fanzone presenter Danny who took the idea to the club and City agreed to help out.

This allowed the fans at the game honour the passing of Bernard Halford with a unique tribute which was shown on worldwide TV. Well done to another classy response from the best football fans in the world!
