2. Spurs are the “Media Darlings”

Adrian Durham on Talksport has for some time employed the tactic of referring to Spurs as “Spursy” to acknowledge that for all their column inches, fast football, Harry Kane et al – they are still likely to achieve nothing. Precisely because of this fact Spurs tend to touted in the media as some kind of footballing master tacticians – its because they are safe and harmless. Spurs are the side you wouldn’t mind your daughter going to the pictures with. They are unlucky to cause anyone any trouble really in the trophy department.

Because they are unlikely to actually win anything and have developed an almost Liverpool style ability to bottle the biggest games – the media have found them pretty safe to champion because you can do so without really upsetting any other fans. No one really cares about Spurs.
