Manchester City’s Backup Goalkeeper Situation in 2017-18
What’s Likely to Occur: Claudio Bravo/Another signing?
Claudio Bravo
Coming off of a mistake-riddled season with Manchester City in his first season
After signing Bravo for 17 million in the summer of 2016, I was really excited at how we would be looking in the back — a respected and solid goalkeeper for a major team like Barcelona raised my expectations for how he would perform at Man City. I expected greatness in distribution and shot-stopping but what we got was meh and awful.
I really thought more would come out of Bravo, but it didn’t and Pep still thinks he can play at City. Recent news also has said that Bravo does not plan on leaving and thinks he can still do something at City. Honestly, I think given some more time and confidence, he could be a solid backup keeper for the Citizens.
Unfortunately, it appears we don’t have much of an option at the moment as Angus Gunn, our only other alternative at the club currently, has left on loan. This could have been a great opportunity for Gunn, but at the same time, I think a loan move is a good opportunity to him to develop and possibly become a future City goalkeeper.
