Willy Caballero

Coming off of an okay season as Manchester City’s makeshift No.1 goalkeeper

Bravo played a majority of the first half of the season as our No.1 Keeper, with Caballero mostly confined to the bench. Fortunately, Pep made the decision following numerous woeful performances by Bravo to put in Caballero, and it paid off, kind of….

Compared to Bravo, by the end of the season, Willy was much, much better and the statistics can also back it up. Looking at this comparison matrix (Squawka), Bravo let in double the amount of goals while making considerably less amount of saves, and had a similar distribution accuracy. Caballero definitely made some improvement under Pep’s supervision.

However, there were definitely lapses and times where you could tell Caballero was either not confident or just not up to the task. Either way, it doesn’t appear that Caballero will be returning next season… Recent reports have it that he is undergoing a medical at Chelsea.

I, and certainly other City fans, will surely be sad to see him go. I will never forget the great performance he put in at the League Cup at Liverpool. It’s not goodbye quite yet, but we will miss his passion and gruel if he is to leave.
