Manchester City to launch bid for Real Sociedad ace

Manchester City continue to be linked with most of world football’s full-back contingent with Yuri Berchiche the latest name attached to the Blues.

According to reports in Spain, Manchester City have sent Pere Guardiola, brother of manager Pep Guardiola, to personally scout 27-year-old Yuri Berchiche.

The full-back has been in impressive form for high-flying Real Sociedad this term. The defender’s fine performances have alerted the likes of Barcelona to a potential summer deal.

A one-time graduate of Tottenham Hotspur’s youth academy, City are supposedly keen on bringing the defender back to the Premier League.

However, Sociedad are unlikely to be keen on parting with one of their prized assets. The Spanish club will be holding out for close to the player’s £34.5 million release clause.

The former Spain U-18’s left-back is the latest in a long line of players linked with Manchester City in recent weeks.

England star Danny Rose remains the club’s primary target for the defensive role. However, Spurs will demand an extortionate fee for one of their best players.

Berchiche would provide experience and an attacking flair down the left flank. At 27, he is in his prime and able to contribute immediately from the position. The area continues to be an ongoing problem for City.

The future of current left backs Aleksander Kolarov and Gael Clichy, remains uncertain. Clichy is out of contract in the summer. Likewise, Serbian Kolarov’s form continues to be suspect.
