As the summer transfer window fast approaches, I thought it would be good to provide fans with an update with overall news this summer and what Manchester City players have been up to.

Bernardo Silva

May 26th — Signs for City

In case you have been living under a rock, or just haven’t looked online in the past month… Manchester officially announced the signing of Bernardo Silva from Monaco on May 26th for a reported £43m move. It really came out of nowhere as fans probably would have expected a keeper or a defensive signing first. It was the first signing in a while where it truly came as a surprise — I’m not sure there was any talk or chatter on any of the social media regarding a move from Bernardo Silva.

But, it showed Manchester City means business this summer; completing an early deal like this proves Pep isn’t joking around and is looking to add serious depth to our squad. It’s not a secret that we have an abundant amount of midfielders, but Pep still thought signing Bernardo was too good of an opportunity to pass up. What has Bernardo been up to this summer? Well, after completing his medical and going about his first day at the CFA, our second Silva has also had some international duties he has had to attend to. His international squad, Portugal, have recently finished their group play in the Confederations Cup.

His first appearance in the tournament came off of a 1-0 win against Russia having played the full 90 minutes in just his 13th international cap. Notably, he played on the right side in a 4-4-2 formation. This is the position he has normally played for Monaco, but will surely be mixed around in our lineup come August.

Bernardo statistically didn’t have a glamorous performance, but was a constant threat on the attack and was always looking to thread a through ball for Silva or Ronaldo over the top.

Against New Zealand, Bernardo also made the starting 11, and also scored the games’ 1st goal. Unfortunately, he also suffered an ankle injury on this play but has given an update to all of his followers and supporters that he is okay and should be fine for then next match. There was a bit of a scare there, but hopefully, all is well with the Portuguese magician.
